To attract and maintain a healthy Fintech ecosystem in Oman, the Central Bank of Oman as a regulator of the financial sector maintains an ongoing dialogue with the relevant stakeholders. Accordingly, the Central Bank of Oman is collaborating with several regional and international entities to participate in specialized research on the Fintech field to match the skillset to the roles and to effectively balance between innovation in the financial sector with regulatory mandates.


  1. Central Bank of Oman’s Digital Currency

    • The emergence of Central Bank Digital Currency globally has resulted in 80% of Central Banks that are actively researching CBDC where the majority are expected to launch their CBDC within the next few years, according to a survey by the Bank of International Settlements several Central Banks are currently in different stages of exploration start from researching, pilot and conducting proof of concepts. The CBO is amongst the Central Banks that has concluded researching the need to issue CBDC.
    • The CBO is currently underway to conduct a CBDC pilot.
  2. GCC Fintech Working Group

    The Central Bank of Oman is a member in the GCC Fintech working Group that aims to discuss and explore opportunities and emerging technologies in Fintech within the GCC region.

  3. Arab Monetary Fund (AMF)

    The Central Bank of Oman is also a member in AMF to discuss and explore opportunities and emerging technologies in Fintech in the arab region.

  4. Quantam Computing

    The Central Bank of Oman is Collaborating with MTCIT to explore the opportunities in Quantam Computing.

  6. Global Innovation Index

    The Central Bank of Oman joined the national team for the "Enhancing Oman's Performance in the Global Innovation Index" project to identify current gaps and improve Oman's global performance related to emerging technologies and innovation. The CBO efforts have contributed to a significant leap in Oman's global ranking, advancing 10 positions in the Global Innovation Index to secure the 69th place out of 132 countries.
